So glad you made it!

I'll be sharing some different perspectives as a former teacher who's just started noticing and looking up.

This book is a light-hearted rhyming story about choosing a hairstyle and focuses on Black hair care. It will help children to consider the significance of hair, hair styles, cultures, beliefs and traditions. It provides a wonderful opportunity for children to think about and discuss how they look after their hair and choose a hairstyle. This resource pack contains teacher notes and 6 activities to help children engage with the topics in the book.

  • Engage: a drawing activity inviting children to choose their favourite hairstyle from the book
  • Self-reflection: a drawing activity which allows children to think about their choices with their hair
  • Paired talk: activity encouraging children to explore hair care routines (KS1 and KS2 version)
  • Non-fiction information retrieval: a hair history and question sheet
  • Writing: poetry ideas to help children create their own ‘My Hair’ poem
